Diversified Technique

The classic, hands-on chiropractic adjustment — precise manual thrusts that restore alignment and get you moving again.

The Foundation of Chiropractic

What Is the Diversified Technique?

The Diversified Technique is the most widely used chiropractic adjustment method in the world — and for good reason. It's the hands-on, manual adjustment technique that most people think of when they hear "chiropractic." It involves quick, precise thrusts delivered by hand to restore proper alignment and movement to the spine and joints.

These adjustments are known as high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrusts — meaning they're fast and controlled, using just the right amount of force to correct a misalignment without overdoing it. This is the technique that often produces the satisfying "pop" or "crack" sound that comes from gas releasing in the joint.

At Path to Wellness Clinic of Chiropractic, Dr. Chitra Rajendran is highly skilled in the Diversified Technique and uses it as part of a comprehensive approach tailored to each patient's needs, comfort level, and condition.

The Process

How the Diversified Technique Works

Precise, hands-on adjustments that correct misalignments and restore your body's natural movement patterns.

1

Assessment

Dr. Chitra evaluates your spine through palpation, range-of-motion testing, and a review of your health history. She identifies exactly which vertebrae or joints are misaligned and restricting your movement.

2

Manual Adjustment

A quick, controlled thrust is applied by hand to the targeted joint. The HVLA thrust moves the joint just past its restricted range — restoring normal motion and reducing nerve interference in one precise movement.

3

Alignment Restored

With proper alignment restored, nerve pressure is relieved, inflammation decreases, and your body can move freely again. Many patients feel immediate improvement in pain levels and range of motion.

4

Supporting Care

When beneficial, Dr. Chitra may pair your adjustment with supporting therapies like cold laser, cupping, or IASTM to address soft tissue involvement and enhance your overall results.

Why Diversified?

Benefits of the Diversified Technique

There's a reason this is the most widely practiced chiropractic technique — it works.

Effective Pain Relief

Directly addresses the structural cause of your pain by correcting misalignments that put pressure on nerves, muscles, and joints. Many patients feel relief immediately.

Restored Mobility

Restores full range of motion to joints that have become restricted or locked up — helping you move freely without stiffness, guarding, or compensation patterns.

Precise & Targeted

Each adjustment is specific to the joint that needs correction. Dr. Chitra's hands can feel exactly where the restriction is and deliver the correction with pinpoint accuracy.

Non-Invasive

A completely natural, drug-free approach to pain relief and spinal correction. No surgery, no injections, no medications — just skilled hands and precise technique.

What to Know

About the "Cracking" Sound

The popping or cracking sound you may hear during a Diversified adjustment is completely normal. It's called a cavitation — the release of gas bubbles from the joint fluid when the joint is moved quickly. It's the same thing that happens when you crack your knuckles.

The sound doesn't mean anything is breaking or being damaged. In fact, many patients find the sound satisfying because it often comes with immediate relief. That said, a successful adjustment doesn't always produce a sound — the correction is what matters, not the pop.

Your Comfort Matters

Prefer a Gentler Approach?

Not everyone is comfortable with manual adjustments — and that's completely okay. Dr. Chitra offers several low-force alternatives:

Dr. Chitra will always discuss your options and tailor the approach to your comfort level.

Your Visit

What to Expect

Here's what a Diversified Technique adjustment looks like at Path to Wellness Clinic of Chiropractic.

1

Hands-On Evaluation

Dr. Chitra uses palpation — feeling the spine with her hands — to identify areas of misalignment, muscle tightness, and restricted joint motion. She'll also review your symptoms, health history, and any imaging if available.

2

Positioning

You'll be positioned on the adjustment table — typically lying face down, on your side, or seated depending on which area is being treated. Dr. Chitra will position you comfortably and let you know what to expect before each adjustment.

3

The Adjustment

Dr. Chitra delivers a quick, controlled thrust to the targeted joint. You may hear a popping sound — that's normal. The adjustment is fast, and most patients feel immediate relief as the joint moves back into proper position.

4

Post-Adjustment Review

After the adjustment, Dr. Chitra checks your response and may recommend supporting therapies like cold laser, cupping, or IASTM. She'll discuss your care plan and schedule follow-up visits based on your condition and progress.

New patients can save time by completing paperwork before their first visit.
