Scoliosis
Gentle, non-invasive care to manage scoliosis — improving alignment, reducing discomfort, and helping you move with confidence.
What's Going On
Understanding Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine that can develop at any age, though it most commonly appears during adolescence. The spine may curve into a C-shape or S-shape, creating uneven shoulders, hips, or ribcage — and in many cases, chronic pain, stiffness, and limited mobility.
While severe cases may require medical intervention, many people with mild to moderate scoliosis experience significant improvement through chiropractic care — without surgery, braces, or medication.
Scoliosis doesn't have to define your quality of life.
At Path to Wellness Clinic of Chiropractic, Dr. Chitra Rajendran uses gentle, targeted techniques to reduce spinal curvature, relieve the muscle imbalances that come with it, and help you feel more balanced and comfortable in your body.
Early Intervention Matters
The earlier scoliosis is addressed, the better the outcomes. Regular chiropractic care can help slow curve progression and prevent the compensatory pain patterns that develop over time.
Root Causes
Types & Causes of Scoliosis
Scoliosis can develop for a number of reasons. Understanding what's behind your curvature is the first step toward effective treatment.
Idiopathic Scoliosis
The most common type, idiopathic scoliosis has no identifiable cause and typically develops during adolescence. It accounts for roughly 80% of all scoliosis cases and ranges from mild curves to more significant deviations.
Degenerative Scoliosis
Also called adult-onset scoliosis, this develops later in life as spinal discs and joints wear down. Arthritis, disc degeneration, and osteoporosis can cause the spine to curve gradually over time.
Congenital Scoliosis
Present at birth, congenital scoliosis results from vertebrae that didn't form properly during development. These structural abnormalities can cause the spine to curve as the child grows.
Neuromuscular Scoliosis
This type is caused by conditions that affect the muscles and nerves supporting the spine, such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. Muscle weakness or imbalance can pull the spine out of alignment.
Functional Scoliosis
Unlike structural scoliosis, functional scoliosis is caused by an underlying issue elsewhere in the body — such as a leg length difference, muscle spasm, or chronic poor posture — and is often highly responsive to chiropractic care.
Compensatory Muscle Imbalance
Regardless of the type, scoliosis creates uneven stress on the muscles surrounding the spine. Over time, some muscles become tight and overworked while others weaken — leading to chronic pain and stiffness.

Why Chiropractic?
Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Scoliosis
Chiropractic care offers a safe, natural approach to managing scoliosis that focuses on long-term improvement — not just temporary relief.
Pain & Discomfort Relief
Targeted adjustments and soft tissue work address the muscle imbalances and joint restrictions that cause scoliosis-related pain.
Improved Mobility & Flexibility
Restoring proper joint movement and releasing tight muscles helps you move more freely, with less stiffness and restriction.
Slowed Curve Progression
Regular chiropractic adjustments can help prevent the spinal curve from worsening over time — especially important during growth periods in adolescents.
Better Posture & Balance
By addressing the root cause of asymmetry, chiropractic care helps restore a more balanced posture — reducing the visible unevenness scoliosis can create.
